Safety Observation Scheme (SOS)

We have implemented the Safety Observation Scheme (SOS) designed to identify unsafe work practices and conditions in the workplace. Following the submission of a safety observation card, we review findings and collect data for trend analysis. Action plans are developed based on this analysis to address and improve unsafe behaviors.

Emergency Response and Drills

To ensure preparedness for emergencies, we conduct drills simulating real-life scenarios. All personnel present at the facility during drills are required to participate. This requirement extends to contract facilities or vessels operating within our production fields, ensuring consistent adherence to emergency procedures.

To communicate and advocate, in principle and practice, our core values with the general public, employees, investors, and government agencies in support of community development, environmental protection and sustainability, and improved quality of life.

Featured CSR Efforts

Egypt

We operate in a remote location, situated in the desert, and as a result there are few communities we interact with. However, the Bedouin people do have a presence in the desert, and we continue to invest in their accommodation and provide them with employment opportunities. During the course of the year we have supported projects to upgrade school facilities and improve access to healthcare services. We also invested in the establishment of the Daira Recycling Center (an incubator) for vocational training in Ras Gharib City, which will focus on development of skills of 200 women in cloth and oil recycling, traditional handcrafts, entrepreneurship, and the green economy.

Gabon

Our long-standing presence in Gabon, and an in-country team made up predominantly of Gabonese nationals, means that we maintain a deep connection with the country. We have a clear understanding of the challenges faced by local communities and established a dedicated Vaalco CSR Fund to support initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to those communities. Through the CSR Fund, this year we provided monetary support to a number of organizations including Synergies Enfants (a non-governmental organization (NGO) supporting children’s healthcare and education) and NISSI House (a shelter for young girls).

United States

In Houston, we engage in CSR efforts that focus on community involvement and environmental stewardship. In April, our small team helped pot over 500 trees, which have been distributed to various parks and trails throughout Houston. In July, we collected school supplies for an underserved local school district, helping to provide essential materials for students in need. In August, we participated in the "Heroes for Children" initiative, where our team purchased backpacks and school supplies for children with cancer. As part of this we wrote personalized messages on the backpacks, adding a thoughtful touch to help symbolize our support for them. We also had an opportunity to support the Special Olympics organization, the world’s largest sports organization for children with intellectual disabilities.
